Redeemed by Christ and Ever Blessed

“And when one comes to see me, he utters empty words, while his heart gathers iniquity; when he goes out, he tells it abroad. All who hate me whisper together about me; they imagine the worst for me. They say, ‘A deadly thing is poured out on him; he will not rise again from where he lies’” (Psalm 41:6-8). “You have collected all my tears in your bottle. You have recorded each one in your book” (Psalm 56:8).

Redeemed by Christ and ever blessed,

Why fearing, doubting, sore distressed?

My debt my Lord has fully paid—

Why discontent and so afraid?

By dearest ones I’ve been betrayed;

My hope is gone and night invades,

The dreary dark; my faulty friends

Accuse and whisper, and contend.

Sometimes I’ve felt accursed not blessed,

My empty, broken heart distressed;

Though Christ my debt has fully paid,

Why discontent and so afraid?

I fear false witnesses who blame,

Who seek my downfall and my shame.

Then longingly I bring my fears

To Christ who’s bottled all my tears.

Absolved and loved, and ever blessed,

With joyful heart, no more distressed;

I rest content, no more afraid,

Since Christ my debt has fully paid.
