THE RED HOUSE FARM

Guest Lodging--Rest and Relax

WRITERS' RETREAT

Finish your book

Do you need to get away and finish that project? How about a pastoral getaway in one of our writers' retreat, custom- crafted mini lodges on our family farm on the Pacific Northwest Peninsula? Hop on a Washington State Ferry in Seattle and enjoy the cross-sound voyage to the beautiful Kitsap Peninsula. The Red House Farm, only minutes from the Southworth Ferry, is a hillside farm overlooking the Olalla Valley, where eagles soar and spectacular sunsets  paint the sky over the ridge. It's quiet and peaceful. Perfect for writing. Tutorial/critique included.

Tarnside Cottage (Tarn is an Anglo-Saxon term for a small body of water) sleeps 4, in 1 double and 2 twins in a loft above; equipped with hot pot, and 1 ET toilet*; shared shower, refrig, hot plate. Tarnside is $119 per night with a 2-night minimum stay (plus $35 cleaning fee).

Special Writing Retreat discounts, or for those who just need to rest, repose, and refuel the mind, heart, and imagination for a full week. Author Douglas Bond, owner of The Red House Farm, warmly extends a special weekly rate to writers and others in need of a quiet place to create:  Tarnside is $700 for 7 nights

Brookside is $600 for 7 nights (plus $35 cleaning fee).

Our Inspiration

The inspiration to develop guest lodgings on our farm came from our visits to Banbury Hill Farm in the UK (where owner and author Douglas Bond directs the Oxford Creative Writing Master Class) and from Tree House Point in nearby Fall City; we invite you to explore Pete Nelson's website at www.treehousepoint.com as you consider a wilderness getaway.

The Red House Farm currently has two guest lodgings completed for your repose and relaxation:

Brookside Cottage sleeps 2 in a double hide-a-bed, with shower (shared by Tarnside guests), 2 ET toilets* (1 shared with Tarnside guests when using the shower), and a kitchenette with hot pot, 2-burner hot plate, hotel refrigerator, and bar sink. When couples come together to stay, or when there is no guest staying at Brookside, the room serves as a commons room for Tarnside guests. Brookside is $99 per night with a 2-night minimum stay (plus $35 cleaning fee).

*Environmental toilets (ETs) are odorless composting toilets, sanitary, finely crafted,, comfortable, good for the environment, and simple to use: When you have finished using the toilet, from the bin provided, sprinkle a scoop of cedar sawdust over your waste material and close the lid. No mess, no odor, and, best of all, no effluent in the water table.
